The Mourning Flowers

There once was a tree

Mighty as can be,

Who gave shade and shelter and love.

But one day that tree

Mighty as can be,

Was cut down due to powers above.

All left was a stump

No prettier than a rump,

And the grass lay barren around.

But all around that stump

Which adorned that desolate rump

Grew flowers straight up from the ground

And all of those flowers

Sprung up by spring showers

Proclaimed, “What was barren shall now bear fruit!”
